Uncovering the Genetic Basis of Aging: New Technique Developed by NC State Researchers

A new technique helps identify genes linked to aging
Researchers at North Carolina State University developed a method to determine which genes are important for the aging process. The research was conducted on an animal species that is widely used for genetic and biochemical research. However, the findings have broader implications for research on the genetics behind aging.

Adriana San Miguel is an assistant professor at NC State and the corresponding author of this paper.

This is because the field has a specific technical challenge. By the time an organism can reproduce, it will be old. The techniques we use to research genes require that we work with animals capable of reproducing so that we can study specific genes’ role in future generations.
