Tryptophan: A Therapeutic Target for Inflammaging
In a new open-access paper, tryptophan is examined in relation to the changes in microbiome that are caused by ageing.
The microbiome
The intestinal microbiome is an ecosystem that includes bacteria, archaea and viruses. Some of these are beneficial, while others can be harmful. It’s the balance between them all that keeps us alive. The intestinal microbiome is dominated by four microbial groups, Firmicutes (Bacteroides), Bacteroides (Proteobacteria) and Actinobacteria (98%).
