Transfusing mice with older rodents’ blood quickly causes ageing. This suggests that cellular ageing doesn’t simply come from wear and tear.

It has been a long-held belief that a surgical connection between an older mouse and a younger rodent results in a blood transfer that reduces the age of the older animal. The older mouse benefits, but the effects on the younger donor rodent are less clear.

Irina conboy and her colleagues at the University of California Berkeley transfused young and old mouse blood to learn more. The mice aged 3 months received blood from animals approaching 2 years of age.
