Senescent Cells and Senolytics
As you age, more and more of your cells will enter a state called senescence. Senescent cells don’t divide or support tissues in which they are present; they instead emit a variety of potentially harmful chemicals that encourage cells nearby to enter the same state.
They can cause many problems, including degrading tissue function, increasing chronic inflammation and even raising the risk of cancer. We will discuss senescent cell, their role in age-related diseases and what scientists are doing to combat the problem.
