Researchers Discovered Suppressor Genes in Whales that are Linked to a Longer Life and a Reduced Cancer Risk

Whales have suppressor genes that are linked to a longer life and less cancer.

Three researchers from ICAEV (Instituto de Ciencias y Tecnologia del Agua), Universidad Austral de Chile (University of Liverpool) and Universidad Austral de Chile have discovered suppressor genes that are linked to longer life and fewer cancerous tumors in two whale species. Daniela Tejada Martinez, Joao de Magalhaes, and Juan C. Opazo describe the results of their genetic study of cetacean longevity and their findings in their journal Proceedings of the Royal Society.
