Our Families Suffer
Every person can give examples of how aging affects them.
Recently, I wrote a piece on the plane. I am an expat and was returning to my native country. Now I’m back in my hometown where I lived up until the age of 18. The last time I was here, four years ago, I only came back rarely.
The vast majority of my time at my parents’ home was spent as a child. I have the most vivid memories from my childhood when everything seemed so much bigger. Even though I lived here as an adult, I find that every time I return to the house after years away, it looks smaller. Since I left, things have changed. The furniture has been rearranged and changed in function. Ornaments and trinkets have also changed.
The people have changed the most.
