Jacob Kimmel, Principal Investigator at Calico Life Sciences, leads a research program that focuses on repurposing development programs to tackle aging and age related diseases. In his recent work, he has discovered the impact of cell identity on the aging trajectory of muscle stem cells. He also developed machine-learning methods to analyze single-cell genomic data. Jacob received his Ph.D. from Wallace Marshall and Andrew Brack, at the University of California San Francisco. He developed timelapse microscopy methods to measure state transitions in cells.
