Interview with Dr. Anthony Atala, a leading figure in regenerative medicine.
We were privileged to be granted an exclusive interview with Dr. Anthony Atala. He is the Director of the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, and W. Boyce Chair and Professor of Urology, at Wake Forest University.
Dr. Atala has been a leading figure in the fields of biotechnology and regenerative medicine for many years. His research is focused on growing human tissues and cells for transplantation. Given the dire need of organ donors around the world, his work could improve and save millions of lives. His team has already transplanted bladders to living patients. He also told us that more tissue types have been engineered, tested, and hopefully will be useful in patients in the future.
His groundbreaking work has won him numerous awards, prizes and nominations from well-known magazines such as Scientific American Magazine, Time Magazine, Huffington Post and others. He has also served as a board member and on committees of many organizations such as National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute and SENS Research Foundation.
