Interview with Dr. Maria Blasco
The Ending Age Related Diseases Conference in New York has ended for the year. It was a great success. During the conference we had the chance to interview Dr. Mar i a Blasco. We asked her about her research on telomeres and telomerase treatment, as well as her thoughts on aging.
Telomeres are thought to be a reason for aging
Telomeres attrition, the wearing down of protective caps on your chromosomes with age, is widely believed to be a major cause of aging. Telomeres get shorter with each division. After 50-70 divisions they are critically short. Once the Hayflick limit is reached, cells go through replicative senescence and their division stops.
