How old are you? Scientists were surprised to find that organs contain a mixture of old and young cells
LA JOLLA (June 6, 2019). Scientists used to think that neurons or heart cells were the oldest cells of the body. Salk Institute researchers discovered that mouse brain, pancreas, and liver contain cells and proteins of extremely long lives–some even older than neurons. Cell Metabolism published the findings on 6 June 2019. The findings demonstrate \”age mosaicism.\” The team’s method could be used to study any tissue to gain valuable information on the lifelong function and quality of cells that do not divide.
