AI can now model the Molecular Machines that govern all life
The UW team has stepped up their game this month.
They used both AlphaFold (a folding program) and RoseTTAFold to tweak the programs in order to predict which proteins would tag-team. Then, they sketched out the complexes as 3D models.
The team used AI to predict hundreds of complexes, many of which were entirely new, that regulate DNA repair, govern a cell’s digestion system, and perform a number of other important biological functions. These insights may impact the next generation DNA editors, and lead to new anti-aging or neurodegenerative therapies.
