The most common cause of blindness among Americans aged 50 or older is age-related macular disease (AMD). This condition affects an estimated 7.3 millions people. 1,75 million of these patients have advanced AMD, and will eventually lose their vision. Patients with \”wet\” AMD are included. This condition is characterized by abnormal blood vessel growth in the retina, which can cause fluids to leak or bleed into the central part of the light-sensing tissues.
