She now leads her own $39m Longevity Fund, which supports entrepreneurs who develop therapies for age-related disease.

Deming, who was born in New Zealand, was home-schooled as a young child by her parents. She also taught herself French literature, history, and calculus.

She decided to devote her life to fighting the ageing process after her grandmother Bertie, who was in her 70s and 1980s at the time, developed neuromuscular disorders.
